Ordnance Factories Institute of Learning (formerly Regional Training Institute) Avadi is one of the 8 institutes established by Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata (Govt of India, Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production & Supplies) in the year 1996 for catering to the needs of training in respect of Gr "B" and Gr "C" officers and staff employed in six southern group of factories and their allied establishments. These factories are Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, Engine Factory, Avadi, Ordnance Clothing Factory, Avadi, Ordnance Factory, Tiruchirapalli, Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project, Tiruchirapalli & Cordite Factory, Aruvankadu (Near Ooty).
CORE COMPETENCY
The core competency of this Institute is Personnel Management, Industrial Engineering, Armoured Vehicles (Tanks & ICV), Engineering production, Composites & Surface treatments, Chargeman Training.
For Plastic technology this institute has tied up with institutes like CIPET in Guindy and DMRDE, Kanpur.
LOCATION
OFIL, Avadi is located in HVF Township. It is about 25 KMs from Chennai Central Suburban Railway Station. Out station participants can alight at Chennai Central Station from where local trains can be boarded to reach Avadi Suburban Railway station (12th local railway station from Chennai Central).
The frequency of both train and bus is good and the running time to reach Avadi is about 50 minutes. OFIL is 3 KMs from Avadi Railway Station and Bus Stand. OFIL hostel, where the outstation participants are to report first is about 1 KM from Avadi Railway Station and Bus Stand. The climate at Chennai is pleasant from October to March. This city is hot from April to July and rainy from September to December.
Tourist attractions in and around Chennai are Mamallapuram, Kancheepuram, Planetarium, Snake Park, Gandhi Mandapam, Kamaraj Memorial Hall, Anna Memorial, M G R Memorial, Zoological Park at Vandaloor and various amusement parks for entertainment.
CLASS ROOM FACILITIES
OFIL, Avadi is having three air conditioned class rooms, one conference room and one LAN room with 35 nodes. All the class rooms are provided with various audio visual aids for training like O H projector, LCD Projectors etc.
COMPUTER LAB
OFIL Avadi is having a computer lab having 35 computers connected in LAN. Various computer courses like MS Office, AutoCAD, Unigraphics, Think Design, Animation are being organized. This lab is facilitated with LCD Projector and white board for the better understanding of the participants.
HOSTEL
The hostel at OFIL, Avadi can accommodate 80 participants. Good food is served through catering contract. At present daily rate of boarding is Rs. 118/- for bed tea, break-fast, lunch and dinner.
LIBRARY
Our Library is equipped with a good no of books on topics like management, computer, engineering, production, human relations, Govt. rules and regulations etc., by the best authors of India and abroad.
News papers in English, Hindi and Tamil are made available for the benefit of the participants.
ORGANISATION AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES
OFIL, Avadi is headed by the Principal Director in Senior Administrative Grade who is assisted by a Director and a Dy. Director. There are 11 group 'B' Gazetted Officers (10 JWMs and one P.S.) 2 NGOs and 2 staff. The faculty of OFIL, Avadi are highly experienced in their field and their training capabilities are very much appreciated by the participants of various training programs.
The participants of various short term courses, Induction and re-orientation courses are taken to well known industries in and around Chennai on Industrial Visit, apart from visiting HVF, EFA and OCF. Thus, the participants return back to their parent organization after gaining valuable insights into the various facets of the organization
